Thanks to our friend Andrea Graziano we’ve been informed of this exciting summer course in Paris presented by Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. The Paris Atelier – Architect as Critical Maker course with the motto « Lighter than air »  will be held in Paris from June 3 until  July 15, 2013 with visiting artist Tomas Saraceno. If you are a reader of this blog, you probably know that we are very interested in the artist’s work who is famous to push the conventions of art and architecture and their capacities to invoke inventive solutions to complex questions about how we inhabit and coexist in the world.
The Paris Atelier is an advanced academic program that endeavors to provide a platform to explore the role of the Architect as a Critical Maker – a designer and artist of tangible objects that explore the role of architecture in contemporary culture while engaging the reality of design and construction.  As part of the coursework, the Paris Atelier lecture series will address economic, cultural, social strategies in relation to production techniques within the art world and their role in museums, galleries, web-based art, auction houses, etc. Study will be integrated through a hands-on project focused on producing an exhibition of the participant’s design work.
You cand find detailed information in the document below or visiting the Columbia University webpage.
A few days ago we had a quick skype call with Phillip of Atelier Architecture 64 who is coordinating the project and we expressed our interest in helping him or participating to the workshop. We hope to share soon more information about this.

The motto « Lighter than air » comes from an exhibition of the artist hosted by The Walker Art Center exhibition in 2009. The sculpture Girasol (Turning Sun) (2009) was the centerpiece of  this exhibition and it was conceived to plays up the interdependencies between the sun, the wind, and technology.
If you don’t know Tomas Saraceno, we reccomend the video below in which the artist explains how in his works everything is about relations, connections as it is in natural systems and behaviors.
