The Skylon was a futuristic-looking, slender, vertical, cigar-shaped steel tensegrity structure located by the Thames in London, that apparently floated above the ground, built in 1951 for the Festival of Britain.
A popular joke of the period was that, like the British economy of 1951, “It had no visible means of support”.

As we have often highlighted on this blog, flickr is one of the most important social networking tools for our office, as it allows us to keep in contact with many people and to share our work. One of the most successful operations we have carried out on flickr is the Passerella 2006 Flickr Group where we collect photos of our footbridge in Turin taken by people.
With this post we would like to share a small selection of pictures coming from our Flickr network. This is a good example of how networking is about learning and discovering things, rather than just advertising your own work.

Nous reprenons le titre de ce post publié par arkinet pour rendre hommage à Thomas Heatherwick, ce “very brilliant english designer” peut être pas assez connu en France dont on a dernièrement entendu parlé pour le pavillon d’Angleterre à l’expo de Shangai.
Nous avons eu la chance de travailler avec lui sur plusieurs projets, comme nous avons dejà raconté ici, et nous avons la chance de recevoir ses “greetings cards” à chaque Noel (image ci-dessous).
Nous avons plusieurs fois fait référence au travaux de l’agence espagnole Ecosistema Urbano et aoujourd’hui nous vous presentons leur premier projet sur le territoire français: l’exposition WHAT IF Nantes Saint Nazaire dans le cadre de l’exposition « Petite Planète » organisée par la SAMOA et le SCOT de Nantes Saint-Nazaire. L’exposition a lieu dans la nouvelle école d’architecture de Nantes, projet de l’agence française Lacaton & Vassal.
Le projet WHAT IF, qui prétend utiliser l’imagination horizontale des citoyens pour imaginer des scénario de la ville avec un caractère d’innovation et avec un forte empreinte écologique, se situe dans le terrain de recherche qui considére les nouvelles technologie comme un puissant outil capable de résoudre la complexité des nos habitats contemporain. Quelque part, on pourrait dire que Ecosistema Urbano fait à la ville ce que HDA fait au design.
Ce projet tombe à un moment ou le buzz des technologie numerique de la ville est très fort en France: rien que l’activité sur twitter du Centre Pompidou et plusieurs autres musée de France nous fait comprendre que il y a un intérêt grandissant dans cette direction (autre chose à suivre pour le web des villes en France: le projet Urban trop Urbain sur twitter ou via blog).
