<p>Comme nous avions dejà annoncé sur <a href="http://twitter.com/hda_paris" target="_blank">Twitter</a>, nous organisons en collaboration avec <a href="http://rhinoforyou.com" target="_blank">Rhinoforyou</a> une formation <a href="http://grasshopper3d.com" target="_blank">Grasshopper</a> à Paris incluant un Atelier d&#8217;Architecture Paramétrique. Le stage est prévu pour le 28,29 et 30 juin prochains.</p>
<p>Les 2 premières journées sont consacrées aux « fondamentaux » de Grasshopper avec en préambule une introduction au design et à l’architecture paramétrique et leurs impacts dans la conception, la création et la construction. Le terme a été inventé et définit par Jean-Pierre Hébert, suivant l&#8217;algorithme en pseudo-code suivant :</p>

Les techniques fractales sont souvent utilisées en arrière plan pour donner de la complexité aux images, mais il y a d&#8217;autres façons de façons de donner de la complexité (cf les images faites au traceur de courbes par <a href="http://www.verostko.com/"><strong>Roman Verostko</strong></a> ou les pavages plans de Escher), et puis il y a des images algorithmiques qui recherchent plutôt une simplicité &#8220;zen&#8221; (cf: <a href="http://hebert.kitp.ucsb.edu/index.html"><strong>Jean Pierre Hébert</strong></a> je vous conseille d&#8217;aller voir son site c&#8217;est une mine )</p>

<p style="text-align: justify; ">Les algoristes ne représentent pas une technique numérique particulière, mais plutôt une attitude philosophique, celle d&#8217;arriver à un résultat artistique par une pure démarche algorithmique. Le résultat peut être une image aussi bien que de la sculpture. Les algorithmes ne sont pas forcément numériques, mais doivent faire partie de l&#8217;origine de l&#8217;oeuvre.</p>

<p>Les algorithmes peuvent définir une forme, une pièce, un style, une période ou un corps entier de metier. Ce qui s&#8217;est passé depuis l&#8217;aube de la civilisation, au Bauhaus et du constructivisme, vers l&#8217;abstraction géométrique en Peinture, à ce jour.  Et maintenant, de nombreux algoristes, mais de loin pas tous, utilisent des ordinateurs comme l&#8217;un de leurs outils de travail. <p style="text-align: justify;">Pour la génération contemporaine de algoristes, les algorithmes doivent être précisément définies, au point de devenir naturellement des programmes d&#8217;ordinateur. Au-delà des concepts intuitifs, vaguement défini par le schéma de composition, chaque étape doit être planifiée dès la vision de l&#8217;œuvre, définie analytiquement, calculé. Les contraintes techniques abondent et doivent être maîtrisés. Évidemment, cette discipline qui requiere rigueur, ne peut s&#8217;appliquer partout, mais pour certains, il est en train de devenir une importante source d&#8217;inspiration.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">Recently we have been looking at the combined effects of <a href="http://complexitys.com/francais/realite-matiere-lumiere/" target="_blank">Light, Reality and Materials,</a> specifically concerning the design of a boutique shop in Hong Kong in which we are working with deformed metal grids to create original lighting and texture effects (see the above image, and more at the end of this post).  Of particular importance to us is the research we undertook on the relationships between real and virtual, building and imagination,  and technique and creativity, both theoretical and in practise.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span id="more-1000"></span>After an architect has imagined something (the creation stage), he tries to visualize it (using drawings and renderings), and after that he has to makes it real (the construction stage). At HDA we are constantly aware of these three stages, and we try to make them coherent.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">In our research to find exactly the right material to use, we found an interesting project by<a href="http://www.b720.com/" target="_blank"> <strong>Fermín Vázquez &#8211; </strong>b720 arquitectos</a>, and we would like to thank them for sharing it with us!</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">
<p style="text-align: left;">As can be read in <a href="http://www.archdaily.com/7933/indra-corporate-building-b720-ras/" target="_blank">ArchDaily</a>, &#8220;The skin of the facade is made up of panels of stainless steel metal fabric that act as perimetral solar protection (with a shade coefficient of 50%) for the interior of the building as well as contributing to the overall lightness of appearance. A quarter of these panels have a 90 cm diameter spherical impression created by drawing. These are located in two positions on the height of the panel, and alternately face inwards and outwards.&#8221;</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The most interesting point is how the appearance of the facade can change with variations of light and point of view, as you can see in the images below.</p>

<p>Below you will find images of our design, in which we are investigating metal mesh textures and light effects. The two first are rendered images of the building, followed by photos of the mock-up we are using to test different materials in order to obtain the desired effect, and finally images of some recent studies in which we tried to model the light rendering and geometry of the mesh.</p>

Pero quizás tampoco mucho.<br />
También es el primer post en español, y también es el primer post de la categoría &#8220;Architecture Games&#8221;, en la cual vamos a hablar de todo lo que está relacionado con la parte más creativa y de juego de la arquitectura y de la construcción.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span id="more-282"></span>Por ejemplo, aquí arriba van unas imágenes bastante divertidas de proyectos que hemos desarrollado y que también hemos destruido. Las imágenes se hicieron a partir del modelo del proyecto, deformados luego de forma bastante violenta. Nada más.<br />
Esto me ha hecho recordar la foto de abajo, en donde se ve a <a href="http://tschumi.com" target="_blank">Bernard Tschumi</a> que habla en un ciclo de conferencias sobre el proyecto <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/france/4980639/Grand-Paris-Architects-reveal-plans-to-transform-French-capital.html" target="_blank">Grand Paris</a> al <a href="http://twitter.com/centrepompidou" target="_blank">@centrepompidou</a>.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Un gran arquitecto habla de cómo construir las ciudades del futuro utilizando imágenes de destrucciones de edificios: es una imagen que me ha gustado y me ha hecho reflexionar.<br />
No he tenido la oportunidad de seguir en directo el discurso de Tschumi, así que todo lo que digo es una especulación mía a partir de esa imagen tomada y retransmitida por <a href="http://twitter.com/ethel_baraona" target="_blank">@ethel_baraona</a>.<br />
Esa foto parece un icono de la idea que, quizás, para construir el futuro no se tenga que pensar en la construcción, sino más bien en una visión de la arquitectura más innovadora y como proceso más amplio. Arquitectura non construida entonces, la que trata el problema sociológico y relacional, el espacio non físico, y que resulta particularmente interesante en una época en que en la cual ya no me parece razonable considerar como distinto los cuestiones físicas y virtuales, como tampoco lo seria el separar los problemas tecnológico, ético, económico y del medio ambiente como si fueran independientes.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Con estas breves notas quiero también enlazar con el debate que ha surgido desde hace unos meses en los medias españoles sobre la figura del arquitecto del futuro. Solo recuerdo un par de enlaces que me parecen mejor enfocados al tema que intento tratar: la <a href="http://ecosistemaurbano.org/ecosistema-urbano/%C2%BFcual-es-el-papel-del-arquitecto/" target="_blank">contribución de Ecosistema Urbano</a>, el artículo de soitu.es<a href="http://www.soitu.es/participacion/2009/07/10/u/ion_1247224952.html" target="_blank"> ¿Desaparece la arquitectura?</a> que también hace de resumen de este debate y, por fin, una presentación de la teoría urbana sobre <a href="http://urbanohumano.org/architettura/hyper-local-internet/" target="_blank">espacios públicos híbridos</a> (colectivo <a href="http://imaginario.cc">imaginario</a>).</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Quiero terminar recordando a mi profesor de &#8220;Tecnica de las Construciones&#8221; que nos decía: &#8220;Un buen ingeniero no necesita hablar utilizando formulas matemáticas&#8221;. Pues uno de estos era seguramente Mario Savadori, un ingeniero y profesor que ha escrito más de un libro para explicar las estructuras de los edificios utilizando el sentido común y similitudes con la naturaleza.<br />
Dos de estos libros son &#8220;Why buildings stand up&#8221; y &#8220;Why buildings fall down&#8221;.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Al final, los dos libros hablan de lo mismo. Dos títulos en una simetría perfecta. Es para pensárselo no?</p>

<p>This code was written to achieve a free-form skylight design with a glass roof,  a cable truss and 100 shading blades. The script was necessary due to the time it would have taken in drawing the elements one by one.<br />
If you are architect and used to working with complex geometries and surfaces, you are probably aware of the difficulties and intricacies of double curved surfaces. In many of our projects at <a href="http://hda-paris.com/" target="_blank">HDA</a> we have to deal with these issues on a regular basis.</p>
<p>The basic premise is that you have a free-form surface and it has to be built. A free-form surface (with double curvature) is difficult to build because the surface is not <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruled_surface" target="_blank">developable</a>; you can&#8217;t unfold or unroll it, so you can&#8217;t build it from a folded flat panel (i.e. glass or ruled metal panels). In architectural practice it&#8217;s always preferable to transform double curved surfaces into single curved or flat surfaces (this last case is especially suitable if you are using glass, which is very expensive to deform).</p>
<p>In the slideshows below you&#8217;ll find for your reference two of the project where we had to solve problems related to double curved surfaces.</p>
<p>The first slideshow is the Paris Philarmonic Hall (with Arch. Jean Nouvel) and the second is the Publicis Drugstore, situated on the Champs Elysees in Paris, where all the glass panels are single curved, and therefore give the impression of free-form geometry.</p>

<p>You can <a href="http://complexitys.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/HDA_2009-10-14_rhinoscript.rar" target="_blank">download here</a> our free package containing two simplified rhinoscript files, one for generating single curved panels (A) and the other for generating flat panels (B), and a rhino file that can be used as a base to test and play with the script. In the rhino file you&#8217;ll find a few base geometries which can then be used as a start point to run the script, and a set of layers that will help you to manage the large quantity of geometry generated by the script.</p>

<p>As shown in the video, the script will ask you to chose a set of lines to use as the base of the geometry (they just have to be mono-oriented as in the image above), the starting height, and (only for script B) the number of flat panels you want (12 by default). There are possibly (probably!) some bugs within the script that I didn&#8217;t notice, and admittedly the code is quite poorly annotated, but I hope you will be kind enough to ask us if you have any problems, we&#8217;d be happy to help and to develop the tool together with you. We would also appreciate any comments about the idea of publishing things such as this, as we are continually looking to understand the best way to do it in order to build a constructive platform for debate.<br />

<p>La semaine dernière j&#8217;ai eu la chance, grâce à Benjamin du <a href="http://labomedia.net/" target="_blank">LABOMEDIA</a>, de participer au vernissage de l&#8217;exposition BIOTHING au Frac Centre d&#8217;Orléans.</p>
<p>&#8220;Alisa Andrasek,&#8221; fondatrice de <a href="http://www.biothing.org" target="_blank">BIOTHING</a>, &#8220;fait partie de cette jeune génération d’architectes (Peter Macapia, Xefirotarch, OCEAN, EZCT, Georges Legendre, Gramazio &amp; Kohler, Materialecology…) qui expérimente le potentiel des outils informatiques et dont témoigna en 2003 l’exposition Architectures Non-Standard au Centre Pompidou. La révolution numérique a modifié toute l’économie de la production architecturale, depuis la conception jusqu’à la réalisation. L’ordinateur permet à présent de calculer et générer des formes à partir de codes et de données paramétriques, et l’on peut produire à une échelle industrielle des objets pourtant uniques, grâce aux machines à commandes numériques.&#8221;</p>

Dans notre agence, ce lien entre le dessin automatique et la production industrielle est particulièrement d&#8217;actualité. Nous avons eu moyen d&#8217;expérimenter que aujourd&#8217;hui produire des pièces différentes les unes des autres n&#8217;est pas beaucoup plus cher que de faire des pièces standard. Pour arriver à cette conclusion, travailler sur le projet du <a href="http://cort.as/409" target="_blank">Louvre</a> (avec Rudy Ricciotti e Mario Bellini) a été fondamentale (image ci-dessous).</p>
