This post is the second of 4 posts that are going to be published weekly in the next Fridays about Digital manufacturing (fabbing) environments. In these posts I will share my research on fab labs, open innovation and smartcities, mainly in Europe and in Spain.

The second post is a result of the visit to the Fab Lab León on the 27th of December when Fab Lab León had just opened its doors to the general public. León is situated in the northwest of Spain. I am eager to share my interest for this node of the Fab Lab network.

We have already mentioned our friend Ion Cuervas Mons in our posts about Creative Commons architecture and parametric conference in Madrid and we would like today to share his new web platform THINKBIG LAB, presented as “a collaborative agency to extend architecture through the network culture. Not only seeking form and space but mixing with service, experience and organizative design. Learning by doing and explaining by the blog.”

Francesco Cingolani will be presenting today, Tuesday 12th October, in Madrid, some works of parametric architecture developed by HDA | Hugh Dutton Associés and Ecosistema Urbano.

The conference is based on the previous HDA”s lecture at Ecole d”Architecture de Paris La Villette, and it will include presentation of examples like Terna”s Electric Pylons ( designed by HDA | Hugh Dutton Associés) and parametric research for the Air Tree project, designed by Ecosistema Urbano for the Expo of Shangai.

Après les vacances d’été, nous reprenons aujourd’hui avec un post qui fait le point de la situation de complexitys.
Il y a un an nous avons lancé ce blog  sans trop savoir comment s’en servir. Nous avions juste eu l’intuition que, quelque part, il aurait pu nous être utile.  Comme le graphique ci-dessus montre, ça nous a pris environs un mois pour que le blog commence fonctionner un peu et, un an après, nous en sommes satisfait et nous avons envie de continuer et de faire mieux.

Au début, nous avions naïvement imaginé le blog comme un simple outil pour diffuser ce que nous faisions à l’agence. En gros, il nous apparaissait comme un site internet de l’agence facile à mettre jour. Après quelques mois d’expérience, nous avons compris que ce travail aurait pu avoir des résultats moins prévisibles mais beaucoup plus intéressants.

Par exemple, le fait de mettre par ecrit certaines réflexions, de publier certains projets ou références, nous a obligé à clarifier nos positions, à préciser une direction de travail et, enfin, à définir notre domaine spécifique d’action et à développer un discours théorique qui puisse supporter et donner de la force aux travaux de l’agence.
